Cost of living is a tool employers use to influence your salary expectations, even more so for remote workers. It may not be nefarious, just be aware of it (and it's okay to ask if that is a factor during hiring)

If you're a remote worker and the pool of candidates you’re competing against is world-wide, your market value should not be defined by your geographic location (in my opinion)
